7 Fluid Oz. Productions’ newest short film, The Commitment, was honored with this year’s audience award for Best Short at the Desperado LGBT Film Festival. The Commitment, written and directed by Albert M. Chan, is the story of an interracial gay couple’s attempt to adopt a baby.
The other big winner at this year’s festival was Cloudburst (Best Film), starring Oscar winners Olympia Dukakis (Moonstruck) and Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot).
Runners up for Best Film and Best Short Film were Love or Whatever (Runner Up for Best Film), Second Chance (Tied for Runner Up for Best Short Film), and Modeled (Tied for Runner Up for Best Short Film).
The 2013 Desperado LGBT Film Festival, which takes place at the Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, aims to showcase the best in LGBT films and celebrate diversity throughout the state of Arizona. In addition, proceeds from the festival go to support scholarships for LGBT students.
